The Golden Coast
Is San Francisco a city, or a giant playground all adults with money agreed to build on the bay? Maybe it’s just my post-covid brain telling me that any adventure outside my home-town is the greatest gift ever. I didn’t believe my trip was real until I finally had my two feet down on California soil and was in the embrace of my friends. For the two flights it took me across the states to get there, I was buried in my black raincoat, headphones blasting ‘K-Flay’, and a big, fat, “do-not-disturb” grimace on my face. My flight was delayed two hours, I missed the train, and it was nearing 24 hours without sleep EST. The Uber pulled up in the dark and I dragged my suitcase out of the back. Suddenly my friend burst through his front door, arms wide, feet running to meet us. Abby and I were pulled into a hug. For the first time in over two months, everything was going to be okay. I was lifted. The sweet, salty air filled my lungs. The comforting quiet of the pines held me. A dream 4 years in the making was coming true and I was with my friends; making new memories and making new plans.
As a California first-timer, I was astonished by the bio-diversity and consistently perfect weather. Here are some fun facts I picked up:
A ‘loquat' is a small fruit, similar to a peach, that is best consumed freshly picked from a neighbor’s tree while sat precariously on a roof-top.
When a trail sign says “Danger! No Persons Allowed”, it actually means, “This is where the fun begins.”
No one can really afford to live here, so just enjoy your visit while it lasts.
“This whole thing started because they were just like, we can’t park our freakin’ boats, there’s all these sea lions.” - Asher on the nuisance of sea lions.
Golden Gate Park is big. Once inside, it’s a long ways to find food again.
Upon finding food again, eat as much as you can. It really is a five-star experience.
It’s Real. It’s Here. The Music Video Lives.

But what does it meeeeeeannnnn? Feel free to interpret and debate at will. My imagination created this explanation: People get a narrow, highly edited view of an artist. The artist's job is to convince their audience they desperately need them. The next release is' always the best music to ever have been written' and the next image is 'always a flawless yet candid' portrait of what the artist is selling. As I describe in my lyrics "This is how it works, parts of life are all you'll ever see". The artist singing the song knows their role is to tempt new listeners and get them addicted to their sound. So I play a siren of sorts, luring my follower (played by Wes Kader) through screens and song to the point of obsession. At the same time, I am watching myself through that dusty tv set, always judging the persona I have created yet detached from her, as if all those photos and videos are just an ideal that I will never truly reach. I sit clawing at the tv set, lonely, viewing the alternate reality I created.
